Imagine wandering through the mall, shopping bags in hand and hunger creeping up. You’re not just looking for a quick bite, but a meal that feels like a warm embrace, something that brings a sense of comfort and familiarity. This is where Feng Xiang steps in, a name that’s been part of our dining landscape for years, yet always manages to fill that craving for a comforting meal with its rich, hearty Bak Kut Teh. It’s the kind of place you head to when the heart seeks a taste of home, offering a soothing retreat from the day’s hustle.

Flavour and Heritage

Founded during pandemic-induced cravings and travel restrictions, Feng Xiang was born from a longing for the familiar, robust flavours of Klang’s Bak Kut Teh. Co-founder Harvey Ang, fueled by nostalgia and a keen sense of taste, embarked on a journey to recreate these cherished flavours. Utilising family heirloom recipes, Feng Xiang’s dishes are a testament to the rich culinary heritage that defines the chain.

The cornerstone of Feng Xiang’s menu is its Herbal Bak Kut Teh, a dish that encapsulates the essence of family, tradition, and meticulous craftsmanship. Brewed with a blend of 16 premium herbs and spices, this dish is stewed for over four hours, ensuring each sip of the broth is imbued with the soulful tastes of Klang.

Feng Xiang: More Than Just Bak Kut Teh

While its Bak Kut Teh is a showstopper, Feng Xiang’s culinary offerings extend beyond this beloved dish. The recent introduction of Zi Char favourites to its menu is a celebration of Chinese home-style cooking, offering a variety of dishes that promise to tantalise your taste buds.

The Review: A Taste of Home and More

Here’s a rundown of the delights we savoured:

Herbal Bak Kut Teh

The Herbal Bak Kut Teh was a hug in a bowl. The broth, rich and aromatic, was a perfect blend of spices and tender pork chunks. Each spoonful was a reminder of the meticulous care and hours of preparation that went into creating this masterpiece.

Dry Bak Kut Teh

A delightful twist on the traditional, the Dry Bak Kut Teh was a harmonious mix of sweet and savoury. The addition of cuttlefish strips and dried chilli added a unique texture and a kick that elevated the dish to new heights.

Fried Porridge

The Fried Porridge was a revelation. It was my first encounter with this dish, and Feng Xiang’s version, with its intense ‘wok hei’ flavour, did not disappoint. It was comforting, yet complex, a dish I would gladly return for.

Zi Char Delights

The introduction of Zi Char dishes was a brilliant move. The Har Cheong Gai was crispy, fragrant, and utterly addictive. The Steamed Fresh Baby Squid was tender and bursting with flavour, while the Salad You Tiao, with its crunchy exterior and soft, savoury filling, was a delightful surprise. My favourite was the Crispy Chicken Skin, it’s easy to keep reaching out for the next crisp bite. Order it early as it can get sold out at it’s affordable price.

Promotions to Look Out For

Feng Xiang’s promotional offers on Zi Char dishes are a steal. With the purchase of any Bak Kut Teh or Fried Porridge, you can enjoy dishes like Har Cheong Gai, Har Cheong Chicken Skin, Steamed Fresh Baby Squid, and Salad You Tiao at discounted prices throughout March and April 2024.
