Definitely one of my favourite cafes right now, One Man Coffee shares the same shop space as Crust Pizza on Upper Thomson Road. During weekends, the cafe can get rather packed, but they now have an automated queue system in place to give you a buzz when your table’s ready so you can freely walk around the area. That being said, the wait can still be rather long, but the food and coffee are definitely worth the wait!
My first visit to the cafe, in May 2014, was with my Meetup group Coffee & Cravings where about 8 of us gathered for a brunch session outdoors. I’ve been back at least 6 times since then and constantly have a craving for their Gashouse Eggs. The crew are always polite and the owners are really lovely people, which makes me want to revisit even more.
There’s just something about the baked cheese, bacon jam and underlying runny egg yolk that has me hooked on the Gashouse Eggs ($10.00), aka. Egg-In-The-Bread-With-The-Hole-In-The-Middle—with added Candied Bacon for extra awesomeness of course. I’ve tried the popular Brioche French Toast and have taken bites from the One Man Breakfast before, which are both delicious as well. But that irresistible runny yolk…
Their usual coffee blend is from Strangers’ Reunion, or so I’ve heard. Not my preference for a coffee blend, but it all depends on individual barista’s skills too, and I must say the baristas at One Man Coffee can pull one mean shot. I love my coffees milky, so I usually go with a Latte ($4.50). But for a kick, sometimes a Magic ($4.50) does the trick. One Man Coffee has Axil Beans from Melbourne in their hopper some days, so do check their Facebook & Instagram for announcements.
Glistening sunlight shining through the windows provides ample lighting for taking photos too. But the cafe has such warm, friendly vibes that makes it the perfect place to catch up with friends and forget the world beyond the walls. The comfort food will take your mind away from the online world. Just the way a cafe and food should be.
If you’re looking for a place to meet friends, One Man Coffee is definitely a place to check out. It’s one of the few good cafes closer to the north as well—definitely in my comfort zone. The food and coffee prices are super affordable, the cafe offers free wi-fi and it’s an all-round friendly cafe.
