Sprigs: A delightful Saturday brunch

Sprigs

I was delighted to be invited to brunch at Sprigs about a month ago when they launched their new Saturday brunch set menu. There are 8 options to choose from for your brunch main with salad and a juice to complete your set at just $18.90+.

Rarely do I venture into the area, so I looked out for no. 12 Purvis Street which led to a very modern, quiet shop front. The interior concept is simple with attention to texture and details. Neutral shades are cast upon by ambient spot lighting, which unfortunately makes it a little difficult to photograph the food—so you may want to bring some lighting if you’re intending on going to take photos.

On this occasion I had the Duck Confit Benedict—Pan De Mie, Duck Confit, Sautéed Mushrooms & Hollandaise Sauce, and Eileen had the Eggs Benedict—Pan De Mie, Ham, Streaky Bacon, Poached Eggs & Hollandaise Sauce. Other options on the menu include the likes of ‘One Pan’ Breakfast, Eggs Norwegian and Beef Panini.

This was actually the first time I’ve ever had Eggs Benedict! I’m usually a Big Breakfast with lots of Bacon kinda girl, there’s just usually not enough draw with eggs on bread/muffins. But I couldn’t resist the sounds of the Duck Confit and I was pleasantly surprised. The Duck was tender and flavourful and the runny egg yolks didn’t disappoint at all. The only thing I can nitpick on was that there was slightly too much balsamic vinegar drizzled over the eggs, giving a very acidic taste. But they were looking for feedback with their new brunch menu and hopefully they’re holding back a little on the balsamic vinegar now.

As usual, I ordered an extra coffee with my set meal to get my day going. I would definitely be back for the food, but the coffee is a little weak for my liking. I’m looking forward to trying out the dinner menu too. They offer set dinners with a glass of house wine and have a simple set lunch menu on weekdays that’s only $14.90+ and comes with a daily soup & freshly brewed gourmet iced tea.
