After a brief hiatus, Museo has relocated to the swank residential enclave of Sentosa Cove. Their grand opening sees them introducing the bold new concept of “fine dining in a cup” that enables the diner to sample an eclectic variety of dishes in a refined yet relaxed environment, perfect for romantic dates yet versatile and large enough for corporate events, wedding solemnizations and birthday parties.
Soigné high tea salon by day, Museo transitions into an artistic bar and casual fine dining restaurant when the sun sets. Awash with the lively chatter of mingling guests, the clink of wine glasses, and the soothing strains of classical music in the background, expectations were set high for great food and a good time.
The first item to be served and one of my favourites which I already had plenty of from the friendly waiters walking around with trays of canapes was the Tuna Tataki($12) — a thick slice of rosy pink peppercorn crusted seared tuna served with creamy crab mayo and a subtly salty miso dressing. Wonderful.
Coming in a close second is the Deep-fried Camembert Cheese($13) A panko crumbed cube of crunchy, hot oozy goodness whose richness is balanced with a sweet and jammy cranberry sauce.
If you, like I do, have a penchant for deep-fried seafood, you’ll love the Lavender Prawns($14). Crunchy battered prawns that were plump and buttery, drizzled in a faintly floral lavender mayonnaise. Sinfully sublime.
Reminiscent of the famous pasta dish from Gunther’s, Museo’s Cold Pasta($11) equals the former in terms of refinement and taste. Fine strands of cold capellini tossed with tobiko, truffle shavings, chives and shio konbu was fairly bursting with umami and is a delight on a hot tropical night.
Displaying their fine dining finesse, Museo’s Pan-seared Canada Sea Scallop($14) is luxuriously plump and sweet, topped with bursts of salty tobiko and slaked in a rich saffron butter cream sauce. Beneath the scallop, an anchovy rice cake is an unexpected but welcome find, lending texture and bite to the dish.
Craving for something more substantial? The next few dishes we were served might quite possibly sate your hunger. The Grilled NZ Lamb Rack($16) was certainly tender and devoid of gaminess. I only wish it were less overdone.
Our final dish of BBQ Beef Short Ribs($18) was lusciously meaty, complemented with the sweet and nutty flavours of corn, edamame, macadamia nut and chilli pesto.
With stunning views of the marina while you dine, attentive service and great food served in a novel way, Museo certainly has what it takes to stand out from the crowd. Time to reserve your next date night here!
